Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation & Technology Returns to OMSI Aug. 21–25

The Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation & Technology (PFCAT) is set to make a grand return to the Oregon Museum of Science & Industry from August 21-25. This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever, with a lineup of 150 films from 30 different countries, including 15 films from local Portland filmmakers.

One of the standout films at PFCAT this year is “Downwind,” a documentary by director Mark Shapiro that explores the impact of nuclear testing on Native Americans in Utah. Narrated by Hollywood stars Michael Douglass and Martin Sheen, “Downwind” has already garnered multiple awards since its debut at the 2023 Slamdance Film Festival.

In addition to film screenings, PFCAT will also feature a retrospective presentation by renowned Portland animator Joanna Priestley, as well as a panel discussion on breaking into the animation industry. Animator Bill Plympton will be showcasing his latest animated feature, “Slide,” and offering autographs to fans.

This year, PFCAT will be screening more feature-length films, with a focus on animated and documentary films. The festival will also offer a unique viewing experience in OMSI’s planetarium, where viewers can immerse themselves in original animated films and documentaries.

Organizers of PFCAT are excited to bring the local film community together once again for a weekend of creativity and inspiration. With a diverse lineup of films and special events, this year’s festival is sure to be a hit with film enthusiasts and industry professionals alike.

Tickets for the Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation & Technology are available now, with discounts for OMSI members. Don’t miss out on this exciting celebration of film, animation, and technology in the heart of Portland!
