Abu Dhabi Petroleum Products Trading Regulatory Committee Convenes First Meeting of 2025
The Abu Dhabi Petroleum Products Trading Regulatory Committee (TRC) recently held its first meeting of 2025, with key discussions and presentations on the agenda. Chaired by Dr Saif Saeed Al Qubaisi, Acting Director-General of Regulatory Affairs at the Department of Energy, the meeting was attended by representatives from 21 federal and local government entities.
One of the main topics of discussion was the ongoing efforts to organize the trading of petroleum products within the emirate. Agreement was reached on the execution and monitoring of several recommendations and findings in line with relevant legislation governing the regulation of petroleum products trading.
Adnoc Distribution provided insights into the benefits of enforcing petroleum products trading regulations, emphasizing the role of the Department of Energy and the TRC in combating malpractices in the market. The Committee highlighted the importance of procuring diesel fuel from approved national firms and formalizing supply agreements with national companies to ensure adherence to safety standards.
Additionally, a plan to encourage the adoption of advanced gas cylinders was presented, aimed at improving public safety in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Abu Dhabi Ports also outlined a proposed project for the construction of gas cylinder storage facilities within Abu Dhabi’s ICAD 2 zone.
The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure shared initiatives to set procedures and regulatory structures for importing petroleum products into the UAE markets. The Department of Energy’s Petroleum Products Regulatory Affairs Sector team discussed ongoing work to streamline the regulatory process for obtaining petroleum product trading licenses.
The meeting concluded with discussions on accomplishments and initiatives of the Permits Working Group, as well as recommendations to reduce malpractices in the trading of petroleum products. The Committee emphasized the need for coordination between government entities to enforce regulations and safety standards.
The issuance of the inaugural permit for petroleum product trading in Abu Dhabi last year reflects the commitment to regulating the sector in line with best practices and standards. Dr Saif Saeed Al Qubaisi highlighted the significance of the permit in advancing a sustainable and efficient energy sector in the emirate.
