US Concerns Over China’s Military Drills in Taiwan Strait – State Department

The United States has expressed deep concern over China’s recent military drills in the Taiwan Strait and around Taiwan. The US State Department issued a statement urging China to act with restraint and avoid escalating tensions in the region.

China conducted two days of war games around Taiwan, simulating attacks with bombers and practicing boarding ships. Taiwan condemned these exercises as a blatant provocation. The drills, named “Joint Sword – 2024A,” were launched shortly after Lai Ching-te became Taiwan’s president, a move Beijing views as separatist.

The US and Philippine Marines also conducted joint military exercises in response to China’s actions. The exercises involved firing artillery against an imaginary invasion force. Both the US and the Philippines have objected to China’s actions in regional waters, calling them dangerous.

The State Department’s statement comes amid growing tensions between the US and China over Taiwan’s sovereignty. The US has reiterated its commitment to peace and stability in the region and called on all parties to exercise restraint. The situation remains fluid, and further developments are expected in the coming days.
