S&P Global Market Intelligence is seeking a skilled reporter to cover the US federal agencies that regulate tech, media, and telecom companies, as well as legislative bodies overseeing these sectors. The tech policy reporter will research, analyze, and report on how regulatory and legal decisions impact major tech companies like Google, Facebook, and Apple. This role involves covering issues such as net neutrality, consumer privacy, cybersecurity, media ownership, and the role of social media.

The reporter will provide in-depth coverage explaining the rationale behind regulations and policies at the state and federal level, as well as develop insightful analysis on the likely impacts to businesses and consumers. Additionally, they will write about how existing and proposed regulations are influencing business decisions, including M&A, strategic investments, buybacks, dividends, and R&D.

Responsibilities include following industry trends, composing enterprise articles on key developments, and covering congressional hearings, agency meetings, and other relevant events. The news service reaches an influential readership that includes major institutional investors, regulators, and leading investment banks on Wall Street.

Basic requirements for the position include a bachelor’s degree in journalism or equivalent experience, 2+ years of professional journalism experience, openness to editorial feedback, and a command of journalistic standard methodology (AP style, libel issues, etc.). Preferred qualifications include 5+ years of professional journalism experience, knowledge of the communications, media, and information technology industries, familiarity with federal and state agency processes and policies, legislative procedures, and experience with data journalism.

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $51,289 – $105,400, with final compensation based on geographic location, experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications. The role is also eligible for an annual incentive plan.
