Secret Service to cease protection for RFK Jr.

The Secret Service Ends Protection for Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The Secret Service is ending its protection for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. following his decision to suspend his presidential campaign, according to law-enforcement sources. This comes after President Biden had instructed the protective agency to provide security for Kennedy last month, in the wake of a failed assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump.

Kennedy had been advocating for Secret Service protection for months, citing security concerns and suggesting political motivations were behind the delay. His legal team claimed to have evidence of numerous threats against him, pointing to the assassinations of his uncle, President John F. Kennedy, and father, Bobby Kennedy, in the 1960s.

After announcing the suspension of his campaign, Kennedy endorsed Trump and joined him at a rally in Arizona. While his name will still appear on ballots in some states, the Secret Service typically scales back or eliminates protection for candidates who drop out of the race.

The Secret Service has faced criticism over the assassination attempt against Trump, which resulted in the death of a firefighter and injuries to two others. The agency’s director, Kimberly Cheatle, resigned amid political pressure, and multiple investigations are underway to determine what happened on that fateful day.

Both the Secret Service and the Kennedy campaign have not yet responded to requests for comment on the matter.
