Mahakumbh Mela 2025: Thousands of Devotees Take Holy Dip in Triveni Sangam as 45-Day Event Commences
The Mahakumbh Mela 2025 kicked off with a grand start as thousands of devotees gathered at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj to take a holy dip in the sacred confluence of rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati. This auspicious event marks the beginning of the 45-day-long #MahaKumbh2025, which is celebrated as the largest gathering on Earth.
The event began with the ‘Shahi Snan’ on Paush Purnima, a rare celestial alignment that occurs only once every 144 years. Devotees from all over the world have flocked to the Triveni Sangam to participate in this sacred ritual and seek blessings.
The Mahakumbh Mela will continue until February 26, with significant bathing rituals planned on various dates, including Makar Sankranti, Mauni Amavasya, and Basant Panchami. The event is expected to attract an estimated 1.5 crore devotees, who will be taking part in various spiritual practices and rituals.
Security measures have been tightened to ensure the safety of the devotees, with NDRF teams and Uttar Pradesh Police’s water police units stationed at the site. Traffic arrangements have also been put in place to manage the vehicular flow and ensure a smooth experience for the attendees.
In addition to the bathing rituals, various cultural and spiritual activities are planned throughout the 45-day event, including a grand yagya organized by Namami Gange, helicopter joyrides for tourists to get an aerial view of the Kumbh area, and the establishment of hospitals along the National Highway for the convenience of the devotees.
