An elderly Oakland car enthusiast’s beloved 1959 Chevrolet Corvette was stolen in broad daylight, leaving him heartbroken. Dave Lechthaler, who spent years restoring the vintage car to perfection, described the theft as a “stab in the heart.” Surveillance footage captured two thieves breaking into his garage and driving off with the $200,000 Corvette. Lechthaler, a lifelong hot rod enthusiast, pleaded for help in finding his stolen car, expressing his deep attachment to the vehicle. The incident highlights the rising vehicle thefts in Oakland, with over 3,500 reported cases in 2024 alone. Despite the city’s crime problem, Lechthaler remains hopeful that his prized possession will be recovered.
