The Rest Stop in Rocheport Defies Flooding to Hold Grand Opening Celebration

Despite many businesses and attractions along the Missouri River being closed for the weekend due to flooding, The Rest Stop in Rocheport stood out by holding a grand opening celebration on Friday evening. Located off of mile marker 178 along the historic Katy Trail, this brand-new business is housed in a repurposed jailhouse from the 1950s, offering trail-goers a place to enjoy food, beverages, and live music.

Owned by the Leitza family, who also own the Old Neighborhood Cafe and previously worked at Katfish Katy’s in the area, The Rest Stop is a new venture run by Vanessa Leitza’s daughter, Autumn Leitza. The establishment will serve food from the Old Neighborhood Cafe, creating a legacy for the family business.

Autumn Leitza emphasized the need for a picnic spot along the Katy Trail in the Rocheport area, especially since there are limited dining options in the evenings. She encourages visitors to explore the area and experience the inclusive environment that The Rest Stop aims to provide.

Meanwhile, downriver, Cooper’s Landing announced that it would remain closed for the weekend due to flooding in the area. Officials had predicted the flooding as water from other states flowed into the Missouri River, with water levels expected to crest above flood stage.

Despite the challenges posed by the flooding, The Rest Stop’s grand opening signifies resilience and determination in the face of adversity. As the community comes together to support this new business, it serves as a beacon of hope and positivity during a difficult time.
