Armed Thieves Attack Radio Station in Kebbi State, Loot Items and Injure Security Personnel

A brazen attack on a radio station in Kebbi State by a group of 15 armed thieves has left the community in shock. The intruders, armed with guns and machetes, overpowered security personnel and looted essential equipment from the station.

Among the injured were a civil defense corps officer and two private watchmen who were no match for the armed assailants. The stolen items included accessories for the 33KV transformer, generator cables, batteries, television sets, computers, and transmission cables.

In response to the incident, Yakubu Ahmed, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, visited the scene with other officials to assess the damages. Expressing deep shock and dismay, Ahmed promised a thorough investigation and a review of the station’s security measures to prevent future attacks.

The attack comes at a particularly sensitive time as the station recently underwent digitalization and refurbishment, a project initiated by Governor Nasir Idris. The Special Adviser and General Manager of the station have pledged to implement stricter security measures and ensure the injured security personnel receive proper medical care.

This brazen attack serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by media organizations in the region and the importance of safeguarding press freedom and security for journalists and media workers.
