Renowned Sherpa Mountain Guide Kami Rita Completes Record 30th Ascent of Mount Everest
Renowned Sherpa mountain guide Kami Rita has once again made history by completing his 30th ascent of Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak. The 54-year-old climber broke his own record earlier this week, scaling the 8,849-meter peak for the second time this month.
Upon his return to Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital, Kami Rita expressed his determination to continue climbing and announced plans to return to Everest next year and for at least one or two more years. He also mentioned his intention to transition from guiding to a leadership or managerial role at the base camp in the future.
Having first conquered Everest in 1994, Kami Rita has since become a legendary figure in the mountaineering community. His expertise and skills as a Sherpa guide have been instrumental in ensuring the safety and success of countless climbers attempting to reach the summit.
With his 30th ascent, Kami Rita now holds the record for the most climbs of Mount Everest, surpassing his closest competitor, fellow Sherpa guide Pasang Dawa, who has 27 successful ascents. In addition to Everest, Kami Rita has also conquered other formidable peaks such as K2, Cho Oyu, Manaslu, and Lhotse.
As the climbing season on Everest comes to a close, officials report that over 500 climbers have already reached the summit from the Nepali side. The favorable weather conditions in April and May make this period ideal for mountaineering expeditions in the Himalayas.
Kami Rita’s remarkable achievement adds to the legacy of Everest, which was first conquered in 1953 by New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Nepali Sherpa Tenzing Norgay. His dedication and passion for mountaineering serve as an inspiration to climbers around the world, showcasing the indomitable spirit of human exploration and adventure.
