Trump campaign not informed of specific threats from Iran, source says
The Trump campaign was not made aware of any specific threats from Iran, despite recent intelligence indicating an Iranian plot to assassinate the former president. The Secret Service informed the campaign of a general uptick in threats against Trump, leading to increased security measures around him. However, there is no evidence linking the plot to the recent assassination attempt by Thomas Matthew Crooks, who acted alone.
In the aftermath of the shooting at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, Trump has revealed little about his medical condition. Despite appearing in public with a bandaged ear, his campaign has not provided details about his injury. Former White House doctor Rep. Ronny Jackson stated that Trump is “doing great” but did not disclose specifics about his condition.
Meanwhile, an all-senators meeting is scheduled to address the assassination attempt, with briefings from the Justice Department, Secret Service, and FBI. Additionally, Butler County officials are focused on supporting the families of the victims, particularly the family of Corey Comperatore, who was killed in the shooting.
Iran has denied allegations of an assassination plot against Trump, calling the accusations unsubstantiated and malicious. The country considers Trump a criminal and has expressed a desire to bring him to justice through legal means.
As investigations into the shooting continue, GOP lawmaker Rep. Jeff Duncan is calling for an independent commission to investigate the security breakdown that allowed the gunman to target Trump. Duncan believes that an independent, nonpartisan group would be better equipped to gather information and ensure such incidents do not happen again.
In a gesture of condolence, Trump has reached out to the family of deceased victim Corey Comperatore, expressing his condolences for their loss. Comperatore, a former fire chief, was attending the rally as a spectator when he was tragically killed.
