Indian-Origin Founder Clueless After Selling $975 Million Firm: No Idea What to Do
Indian-origin entrepreneur Vinay Hiremath found himself in a state of cluelessness after selling his successful startup Loom for a whopping $975 million to Atlassian in 2023. In a candid blog post titled “I am rich and I have no idea what to do with my life,” Hiremath shared his struggles and insecurities after suddenly becoming wealthy.
The 33-year-old detailed his attempts to find purpose and direction in his life after realizing he never has to work for money again. Despite being offered a lucrative $60 million pay package as the CTO at the company that acquired Loom, Hiremath found himself struggling with the decision.
In his pursuit of something new to do, Hiremath traveled with his girlfriend, but their relationship ended after two years due to his insecurities. He took the opportunity to apologize to his ex-girlfriend in his blog post, thanking her for everything and expressing regret for not being able to meet her needs.
Hiremath also shared his experiences of trying to start a robotics company, working with Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy in DOGE, and even attempting to climb the Himalayas without any prior experience, which resulted in him falling ill and needing to be rescued. Currently, he is in Hawaii learning physics in order to build a foundation for starting a company that manufactures real-world products.
The journey of Vinay Hiremath post-selling his startup Loom is a reflection of the challenges and uncertainties that can come with sudden wealth and the search for purpose beyond financial success.
