W. Brooke Elliott appointed as Dean of Gies College of Business

W. Brooke Elliott Named Dean of Gies College of Business at University of Illinois

In an exciting announcement, W. Brooke Elliott has been chosen as the new dean of Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois, pending approval by the U. of I. Board of Trustees. Elliott, who currently serves as the executive associate dean of academic programs at Gies, will also hold the prestigious title of the Josef and Margot Lakonishok Professor in Business.

With over 20 years of experience as a faculty member at the University of Illinois, Elliott is a respected tenured professor in accountancy and the EY Distinguished Professor in Accounting. She has held various leadership roles within the college, including overseeing online programs and serving as the first female head of the Department of Accountancy.

Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost John Coleman expressed his confidence in Elliott’s ability to lead the college, citing her dedication, vision, and collaborative leadership style. Elliott’s accomplishments include designing the undergraduate core curriculum, leading the Department of Accountancy, and fostering collaboration across academic program units.

In addition to her administrative roles, Elliott is a prolific researcher whose work focuses on investors’ use of accounting information, the relationship between accounting disclosures and investor sentiment, and managers’ use of non-GAAP earnings disclosures. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, an MBA with an accounting focus, and a doctorate in accounting.

Elliott’s appointment as dean of Gies College of Business and the Josef and Margot Lakonishok Professor in Business will officially begin on August 16.
