FHSU’s Department of Applied Technology Achieves 100% Graduate Job Placement Rate

In a remarkable achievement, Fort Hays State University’s Department of Applied Technology has reached a 100 percent graduate job placement rate. This milestone has been a long time coming, with the department consistently maintaining a high job placement rate of around 98 percent over the years.

Kim Stewart, the chair of the applied technology department, expressed his delight at reaching this significant milestone. He credited the success to the hard work of the faculty and company partners in creating successful pathways to employment for all applied technology graduates.

The success of the program can be attributed to the robust internship program offered by the department. With nine internship credits included in the program of study, students gain valuable hands-on experience that prepares them for the workforce.

Career fairs hosted by the department have also played a crucial role in connecting students with potential employers. In the fall of 2024, 68 companies attended the career fair, meeting with over 200 students from FHSU and its strategic affiliation partners. This networking opportunity led to summer internships, summer employment opportunities, and full-time job offers for the students.

One of the strategic objectives of FHSU’s affiliation with Fort Hays Tech NC and Fort Hays Tech NW is to address the housing shortage in Western Kansas by creating opportunities for students to become highly qualified construction workers and managers. By offering updated content and educational pathways, the institutions are equipping students with the skills needed to excel in the construction industry.

Overall, the 100 percent graduate job placement rate is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the faculty, staff, and industry partners involved in the applied technology program at FHSU. This achievement not only benefits the graduates but also contributes to the economic growth and development of the region.
