Financial Agreements and Upgrades at Brush Creek Treatment Plant in Cranberry Township
Cranberry Township Prepares for Major Upgrades at Brush Creek Treatment Plant
Cranberry Township supervisors are gearing up for significant improvements at the Brush Creek Treatment Plant, with bids for the project coming in higher than expected.
According to Michael Malak, the township’s Director of Engineering and Environmental Services, the bids for the solids handling project were 20% higher than the initial estimate. Township manager Dan Santoro noted that the project is now projected to cost around $42 million, up from the original estimate of $35 million.
To fund the project, supervisors will be asked to consider an ordinance authorizing the issuance of guaranteed revenue notes for $35,960,000, in accordance with the Local Government Unit Debt Act. In addition to the loan, the township has secured funding from various sources, including a $5 million grant from the Environmental Protection Agency and a $1.75 million grant from the H20 PA Act.
The township will also receive $6.3 million from the Marshall Township Municipal Sanitary Authority as part of an intermunicipal service agreement. However, officials will need to find additional funding options to cover the remaining costs of the project.
During an upcoming meeting, supervisors will consider contracts with GHD for construction management, inspection services, and engineering services. Bids for a general contractor and HVAC, plumbing, and electrical work will also be reviewed and awarded at the meeting.
The upgrades at the Brush Creek Treatment Plant are crucial for improving water treatment and ensuring the health and safety of residents in Cranberry Township. Stay tuned for updates on this important infrastructure project.
