Woman Files Lawsuit Against American Airlines for Inaction During In-Flight Incident
A woman has filed a lawsuit against American Airlines, alleging that the flight crew failed to take action after a male passenger masturbated next to her for an hour during an international flight. Neel Elsherif, the CEO of three companies, including luxury vegan leather brand Mela, was traveling from New York to Milan when the incident occurred.
According to the lawsuit filed in Brooklyn Federal Court, the man, referred to as “John Doe,” consumed multiple glasses of champagne before he began touching himself over his pants. Elsherif, who had paid $3,000 for her premium economy seat, felt trapped and panicked as the man continued his inappropriate behavior for nearly an hour. Despite her discomfort, no crew members intervened or checked on the situation.
Elsherif reported the incident to a flight attendant, expecting assistance, but was told there was nothing they could do except move to coach. The flight attendant dismissed her concerns, stating that “men just do stuff like that” and revealing that her own husband engaged in similar behavior.
The lawsuit accuses American Airlines of negligence and emotional distress, with Elsherif alleging discrimination as her claims were not taken seriously because she is an Arab woman. In response, a spokesperson for the airline stated that they are reviewing the allegations and strive to provide a positive experience for all passengers.
This incident highlights the importance of addressing inappropriate behavior on flights and the need for airlines to take swift and appropriate action to ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers.
