Baidu Considers Collaboration with Tesla for Robotaxi Technology in China
Baidu, a leading Chinese tech company, is considering utilizing Tesla’s robotaxi technology or Full Self-Driving (FSD) in China. This potential collaboration was revealed by Baidu’s General Manager for the autonomous driving department, Xu Baoqiang, in an interview with Shanghai Securities News.
The Chinese government recently showed support for Tesla’s FSD, with Elon Musk proposing to test the technology in vehicles already operating in the Chinese market, such as taxis. Musk also suggested integrating Tesla’s FSD software into Chinese taxi services.
Baidu and Tesla already have a strong partnership in China, with Tesla planning to use Baidu Maps to enhance China’s version of FSD. Additionally, Tesla’s FSD recently received tentative approval in China after clearing regulatory hurdles.
While Tesla continues to work on regulatory approval for autonomous vehicles in the United States, Baidu’s potential use of Tesla’s technology in China could pave the way for broader adoption of driverless vehicles. This collaboration highlights the ongoing advancements in autonomous driving technology and the potential for future partnerships in the industry.
