New Jersey High School Tops National Ranking for STEM Education
In a recent report by U.S. News & World Report, High Technology High School in Lincroft, Monmouth County, has been named the top high school for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education in the nation. This prestigious ranking is based on the percentage of students who took and passed math and science Advanced Placement tests in 2022.
The top five STEM schools in New Jersey, including High Technology High School, are all magnet or specialized high schools run by county vocation-technical school districts. These schools typically require students to take admissions tests to enroll, ensuring a high level of academic rigor and excellence.
Other top STEM schools in the nation include BASIS Peoria and BASIS Chandler in Arizona, The Early College at Guilford in North Carolina, and Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Virginia. West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North in Plainsboro also ranked highly in the nation for STEM achievement, coming in at 58th place.
The rankings were calculated based on the performance of students in STEM Advanced Placement courses, which cover a range of subjects including psychology, calculus, computer science, statistics, biology, chemistry, environmental science, and physics. These courses allow high school students to pursue college-level studies and potentially earn college credit.
