“108-year-old Japanese Woman Recognized as World’s Oldest Barber by Guinness World Records”

Shitsui Hakoishi, a 108-year-old Japanese woman, has recently been recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest surviving barber. Her remarkable journey in the profession began at the age of 14 when she decided to become a barber after being offered an apprenticeship at a Tokyo hair salon. Despite facing numerous challenges, including the loss of her husband and her salon during wartime, Hakoishi persevered and continued to pursue her passion for barbering.

Today, at 108 years old, Hakoishi still actively works as a barber, using her own scissors and serving clients with pride. Even though she now resides in a care home, she remains independent and determined to continue working until the age of 110. Her story is a testament to the power of determination and dedication, proving that age is no barrier to achieving one’s dreams and living a fulfilling life.

In another inspiring tale, 116-year-old Tomiko Itooka of Ashiya has been recognized as the world’s oldest living individual. Born in Osaka in 1908, Itooka has led a vibrant life filled with various experiences, including managing her husband’s textile factory during World War II and taking up hiking as a hobby in her later years. Despite her age, Itooka remains active and continues to inspire others with her humble and gracious attitude towards ageing.

Both Hakoishi and Itooka’s stories serve as reminders of the resilience, strength, and commitment to living a life of significance, regardless of age. Their determination to pursue their passions and live life to the fullest is truly inspiring and showcases the power of the human spirit in overcoming challenges and embracing the joys of life.
