Chinese Foreign Minister announces retaliation against US tariffs

Date:

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s Press Conference Highlights and Responses

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi issued a strong statement against the United States’ “arbitrary tariffs” during a press conference on Friday, accusing Washington of “meeting good with evil.” Wang emphasized that China will continue to retaliate against these tariffs, which have strained the relationship between the two countries.

The recent levying of duties by the U.S. against China, Canada, and Mexico over fentanyl smuggling allegations has further escalated tensions. China maintains that it has taken significant steps to curb the export of chemicals used to make fentanyl and views the U.S. accusations as unjustified.

The ongoing trade war between the two nations, with increased tariffs on both sides, has been a key point of contention. Wang’s remarks at the press conference highlighted the importance of mutual trust and stability in bilateral relations.

In addition to trade issues, Wang addressed various other topics, including the Ukraine conflict, China-Russia relations, and Taiwan. He reiterated China’s support for political negotiations to resolve the Ukraine crisis and emphasized the strong ties between Beijing and Moscow.

Regarding Taiwan, Wang made it clear that China does not recognize Taiwan as a separate country and warned against any support for Taiwan independence, stating that it would undermine stability in the region.

Furthermore, Wang commented on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, expressing support for a two-state solution and cautioning against any forced changes to Gaza’s status. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive resolution to the conflict to achieve lasting peace.

Overall, Wang’s press conference shed light on China’s stance on various international issues and underscored the country’s commitment to upholding its interests while advocating for global cooperation and stability.
