Sahara Group Criticizes Upcoming Series “Scam 2010 – The Subrata Roy Saga” and Contemplates Legal Action
Sahara Group Threatens Legal Action Against Makers of “Scam 2010 – The Subrata Roy Saga”
The Sahara Group has come out swinging against the upcoming series titled “Scam 2010 – The Subrata Roy Saga”, calling it an “abusive and grossly condemnable act” and stating that they are considering taking legal action against the makers.
The series, which is the third installment of filmmaker Hansal Mehta’s popular “Scam” series for streaming service Sony LIV, has been dubbed as a “dust-to-diamonds story of maverick businessman Subrata Roy”. However, Sahara India has taken issue with the portrayal of their founder in the show.
In a statement, Sahara India Pariwar expressed their displeasure with the announcement of the series, stating that it was a cheap attempt to gain publicity at the expense of their reputation. They are seeking legal advice to take action against the producer, director, and all those involved in the making of the show.
The group emphasized that their dispute with SEBI is still pending before the Supreme Court and any attempt to influence the proceedings could be considered contempt of court. They also clarified that Sahara India Pariwar has never been involved in any chit fund activity and that the Sahara-SEBI issue was a dispute over jurisdiction.
Based on the book “Sahara: The Untold Story by Tamal Bandyopadhyay”, the series will delve into one of India’s most notorious financial scandals involving Subrata Roy. The group has taken issue with the use of the word “scam” in the title of the series, stating that it is defamatory and damaging to their reputation.
Subrata Roy, who passed away in November 2023, faced legal battles over allegations of circumventing regulations with Ponzi schemes. The Supreme Court had ordered Sahara to refund money raised from investors, a process that has been ongoing for years.
The group’s strong reaction to the upcoming series highlights the sensitivity surrounding the portrayal of their founder and the ongoing legal battles they have faced. It remains to be seen how this dispute will unfold as the series prepares for release.
