U.S.-Nigeria Partnership: Progress on Health, Governance, and Human Rights

U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard M. Mills, highlights the importance of three international observances in December – World AIDS Day, International Anti-Corruption Day, and Human Rights Day. These events emphasize the critical need for progress in health, good governance, and human rights in Nigeria. The United States has been a steadfast partner in the fight against HIV/AIDS, investing over $8.3 billion in Nigeria’s health sector and providing life-saving treatment to millions. The partnership also focuses on enhancing transparency, accountability, and respect for human rights to ensure better health outcomes for all Nigerians. The U.S. Embassy stands ready to support Nigeria in its efforts to combat corruption and build a stronger nation. Challenges remain, but the collaborative work between the U.S. and Nigeria shows promising results in advancing these crucial domains. As the December observances are marked, the United States reaffirms its commitment to standing with the Nigerian people in their journey towards a healthier, more transparent, and rights-respecting society.
