Celebrating National Black Business Month with Southern Georgia Black Chamber

In celebration of National Black Business Month, the Southern Georgia Black Chamber is highlighting the success and resilience of Black entrepreneurs in the region. With over 80 Black businesses, nonprofits, and employers as members, the chamber provides valuable resources and support to help these businesses thrive.

According to the Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy, Black entrepreneurs own 3.5 million businesses and employ over 1.2 million people across the U.S. This marks a 7% increase in jobs created by Black-owned businesses in the past year, showcasing the significant impact of these businesses on the economy.

Dewayne Johnson, president and CEO of the Southern Georgia Black Chamber, emphasized the importance of providing resources to Black-owned businesses, as they are 10 times more likely to fail due to a lack of support. By developing partnerships and creating a supportive network of Black entrepreneurs, the chamber aims to help these businesses succeed and build generational wealth.

To close out Black Business Month, the SGBC is hosting the Black Economic Expo on August 31, 2024, at the South Georgia Regional Library. This event will bring together state and federal business resources in one room, providing valuable opportunities for networking and growth.

By working together and supporting Black-owned businesses, the Southern Georgia Black Chamber is paving the way for a more inclusive and prosperous business community in the region.
