INVEST Digital Health Conference to Focus on Employers’ Role in Working with Startups

The upcoming INVEST Digital Health conference in Dallas on September 18 will feature a panel discussion on the role of employers in selecting and working with startups. One of the speakers on the panel, Jim Winkler, chief strategy officer with the Business Group on Health, shared insights on the organization’s efforts to help employers navigate the complexities of healthcare innovation.

The Business Group on Health, based in Washington, D.C., brings together leading companies and industry partners to promote health and well-being. Winkler explained that the organization helps members advance the role of employer-sponsored healthcare through convening, content creation, and advocacy.

The group hosts various forums throughout the year, including an annual conference in April, where innovative approaches to healthcare challenges are discussed. Winkler and his team also produce written, audio, and visual content to educate members on complex healthcare topics and advocate for policies that benefit employers.

Within the organization, the Health Innovations Forum focuses on strategic challenges related to innovation and health. Participants in the forum hear pitches from startups and discuss topics such as vendor collaboration and employee experience strategies.

Despite the growing number of organizations in the healthcare space, Winkler acknowledged the challenges faced by employers in selecting the right partners. He emphasized the importance of strategic decision-making in choosing vendors that align with the company’s goals.

As the healthcare landscape continues to evolve, employers must adapt their strategies to meet the changing needs of their workforce. The Business Group on Health aims to support employers in this process by providing valuable insights and connections with innovative startups.
