Restored N&W Business Car to Make Debut This Weekend – Railfan & Railroad Magazine
After three years of meticulous restoration work, the Norfolk & Western Business Car 300 is set to make its grand debut this weekend in East Chicago, Ind. The car, which has been lovingly restored to its former glory, will be on display for the public to admire.
The Norfolk & Western Business Car 300 Preservation Society, founded in 2019 by Bryan Lalevee, spearheaded the restoration efforts. The car, originally built by Pullman in 1917 for the United States Railroad Administration, has a rich history with the N&W and later Norfolk Southern until the 1980s.
Following its retirement, the car was rebuilt to Amtrak standards in 1988 and has been in storage since 1991, protected from the elements. Now, after years of hard work and dedication, the car will be showcased at an open house hosted by Professional Locomotive Services in East Chicago.
The event, scheduled for May 18, is free to the public and will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to marvel at the restored beauty of the Norfolk & Western Business Car 300 and learn more about its fascinating history. Don’t miss this chance to witness a piece of railroad history come back to life.
