Standoff Ends in Indiana: Man in Custody After 18-Hour Standoff, 2-Year-Old Found Dead

The 18-hour standoff in Elkhart County, Indiana has finally come to an end, with a man being taken into custody by the police. The incident began when authorities were called to a residence on Pendleton Drive near County Road 100 at around 9:05 p.m. on Saturday night.

The standoff, which lasted nearly 20 hours, involved the Elkhart County Regional SWAT team being called to the scene. The initial call to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office was to check the welfare of a man and two children, after reports that the man had made threats to harm the children.

Upon arriving at the property, deputies attempted to make contact with the man but were unsuccessful. It was later discovered that the man was armed and threatened to harm the police. The situation escalated when the man fired his weapon and barricaded himself inside the property.

After hours of negotiations, the Indiana State Police SWAT team entered the property and took the man, identified as Ryan Snyder, 37, into custody. Snyder was taken to a local hospital for evaluation before being transferred to Elkhart County Jail.

Tragically, during the standoff, law enforcement discovered the body of a two-year-old child inside the property. The cause of the child’s death is currently under investigation. A four-year-old girl was also found at the scene and has been released to a relative, reportedly doing okay despite the traumatic circumstances.

The community is left in shock and mourning as they come to terms with the tragic events that unfolded during the standoff in Elkhart County.
