F1 CEO hints at dropping hybrid technology in favor of sustainable fuels by 2026

F1 CEO, Stefano Domenicali, has hinted at the possibility of the sport dropping hybrid technology in the future if sustainable fuels prove successful in 2026. This potential shift in direction has sparked excitement among fans who have longed for the iconic sound of previous eras such as the V10 engines.

In a recent media briefing ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Domenicali discussed the potential changes in engine regulations for 2030. He emphasized the importance of evaluating whether to continue with hybrid technology or explore better solutions if sustainable fuels prove to be effective.

The upcoming 2026 regulations, set to be published by the end of June, will bring significant changes to the sport. Domenicali highlighted the issue of increased weight in single-seaters due to the hybrid power unit solution, which has been a concern for drivers and fans alike.

Domenicali also mentioned the desire to enhance the sound of the cars, as fans of all ages have expressed a preference for a more powerful and distinctive engine noise. The potential removal of hybrid technology in 2030 would not only address the sound issue but also reduce the weight of the cars, providing a new direction for the sport.

As the sport continues to evolve and adapt to new technologies, the possibility of dropping hybrid technology in favor of more sustainable and exciting solutions has generated anticipation among fans and stakeholders. Stay tuned for further updates on the future of F1 and the potential changes ahead.
