El Cajon police are utilizing cutting-edge technology to delve into a cold case murder that has remained unsolved for over two decades. The case involves a woman, known only as Jane Doe, who was found with a crushed skull and no identity back in August of 1998.

Retired police officers Fran Deck and Kevin Trotter have returned to the El Cajon Police Department as cold case investigative volunteers to help crack the case. Despite being retired, their skills and curiosity remain sharp as they work tirelessly to uncover the truth behind Jane Doe’s murder.

The woman’s skeletal remains were discovered in a field on Avocado Avenue, with little to no leads on her identity or the circumstances surrounding her death. Investigators have been stumped for years, but recent advancements in technology have provided a glimmer of hope in solving the case.

Using a technique called phenotyping, technicians at Parabon were able to create a composite likeness of Jane Doe at the age of 25. This process predicts various physical attributes such as face shape, hair color, skin color, and even freckles based solely on DNA evidence.

Through the use of familial DNA, investigators were able to track down a potential relative of Jane Doe named Vivian. However, despite attempts to reach out to her, Vivian has not responded to their inquiries. The hope is that by connecting with Vivian and her family, they may be able to uncover more information about Jane Doe’s background and ultimately solve the case.

The use of this new technology has sparked optimism among investigators, who believe it could prove instrumental in solving not only this case but also other cold cases in the future.
